Mongolian Adoption
Eligibility Criteria
- Adoptive parents must be open to a child of either gender.
- Applicants should be prepared for changes in procedures.
- Children from 12 months of age, toddlers and older children are available. The majority of children are 2-5 years of age at the time of referral. Sibling groups may be available.
- Couples must be between 35 and 49 years old, with an age difference between the couple of no more than 10 years.
- Single female applicants 35-45 years old are accepted.
- Couples must be married at least 5 years, or 7 years if previously divorced. No more than one previous marriage per spouse is allowed.
- Families with three or less children in the home are eligible. If one or more internationally adopted children are already in the home, they can only be from Mongolia.
- Final adoption issued in Ulaanbataar, Mongolia.
- Travel by both adopting parents to Mongolia to pick up the child is required. This one trip lasts approximately three weeks and is completely guided and supervised by LSS staff.
Children Available
- Children are currently abandoned or placed into orphanage care because of poverty.
- Infants, toddlers, and older children are available for adoption. Infants are typically 2-5 years at the time of referral. Special needs children are also available. No two non-related children adoptions.
- Adoptive families need to be open to children of either gender.
- Adoptive parents should anticipate developmental delays due to the effects of institutionalization; possible history of malnutrition to varying degrees, and/or possible diagnosis of rickets. Adoptive parents should be aware there may be little information available regarding the social or medical history of the child to be adopted.
