Step-Parent Adoption

Step-Parent Adoption

Lutheran Social Services can assist families when a child or children are already living with stepparents and wish to make the placement permanent through adoption.

  • For adoptions involving stepparents, the state requires an investigation by an agency licensed to complete adoption home studies.
  • The investigation includes one or two visits by a social worker, and a written recommendation to the court.
  • The family hires an attorney to facilitate the legal steps.
  •  Adoption education will be a state requirement and fees for education are additional.
