Ideas for Announcing an Adoption

An adoption is a time to welcome a child into your family. It is time of happiness and you want to share that happiness with everyone you know.

When coming up with a good announcement you will need to consider the age of the child, the child's gender and the facts of the adoption.

Obviously if you are adopting an older child you won't want to announce the birth of a new baby or welcome a new baby. The wording on your announcement should be age appropriate. For babies, you can get away with saying you are welcoming your new bundle of joy. For an older child, you might want to say you are welcoming a new addition to the family. For all children you should put their birth date. That is an important date that you want everyone to know for the future. Something like "We are proud to announce our new addition - child's name and birth date" would work for either an older child or a baby.

The child's gender will usually help you decide on the style of the announcement and the colors you use. You also need to be sure the wording matches the gender.  You can also use gender neutral wording, like "Children are born to us in different ways, but the love is always the same." For a boy you could say "Our hearts are bursting with so much joy as we welcome home our little boy - child's name and birth date." For a girl a good saying is "It's a girl! We welcomed - child's name - into our hearts and home on - date of adoption."

Sometimes an adoption situation can give you good ideas about how to word your announcement. For example, if you are adopting a child from a foreign land then you could say "Our new family addition from a far away land has been given unto our loving hands." Words like miracle and gift are fitting to use in announcing the adoption. You could say "We welcome home our little miracle - child's name and birth date."

Think of the announcement as a way to introduce the newest member of your family. You should include some cute poem or even a quote that fits the situation. Then include details about the adoption date, the child's birth date and the child's name. You may also want to include a picture since everyone will want to see your beautiful new child. You can be as creative as you like with the design, style and wording. There are a range of different ideas out there and poems, sayings and quotes that you can use. The key is to make the announcement fits your child.
